Liverpool Council Helps Lobby For Noise Barriers

You may remember a few weeks back I mentioned that Casula was having new freight lines put in and residents were worried about the noise pollution that this would bring to the area… well not much has changed but there is now hope!

Residents in Casula still aren’t sure whether or not we will be getting noise barriers put in to deal with sounds that are up to 95 decibels! (which the World Health Organisation states are dangerously high).

The reason for this is that the State Government and the Australian Rail Track Corporation believes that it is already noisy in the area due to the existing rail lines and so the new freight trains aren’t going to make it any noisier (hence they don’t think they need to do anything about it).

Some progress has been made though in getting through to the Government that the noise that will be created from the Southern Sydney Freight Line will be unacceptable for residents. The Liverpool Council has made a submission to the Federal Government about the issues that are being faced with the sound pollution so hopefully they get listened to because local residents have been lobbying for about 3 years now!

The Council’s submission has proposed a funding grant from the Federal Government that council’s often get approved to construct and renew local Infrastructure. So here’s hoping that the submission gets accepted and the money can go towards building noise barriers alongside the Southern Sydney Freight Line.

So hopefully something get’s done very soon and I’ll keep you updated on any progress or you can come into my Casula Real Estate office and if you want any more current information about what is happening!
