A Local Man Helping the Community

It was great to find a story in the Liverpool Leader last week about a local man who has been brightening up the roundabouts of Braidwood Drive in Prestons.

His name is Surinder Singh, and he has taken it upon himself to beautify his local neighbourhood all on his own time and at his own expense.

Here is an excerpt of the article about Mr Singh:

“He dedicates time each week to the upkeep of the roundabouts with a little help from his 80-year-old father Harbans.

Mr Singh began the project almost three years ago after growing tired of looking at the bleak eyesore on his daily commute.

‘I used to drive past it and think how ugly it was – it was growing weeds and becoming a dumping ground for drink cans and McDonald’s wrappers,’ he said.

‘I felt like it was my duty to the community to do something about it. I emigrated from India 18 years ago and I wanted to give something back to the community that has given me so much.’

Most evenings he and his wife Satwinder take a walk past the roundabouts to admire his work.

‘It gives me a really good feeling to see how beautiful it is looking. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved. I hope it inspires other people to do the same.’”

Having driven around Prestons a number of times I have always though that the gardens looked nice and different, and they certainly add to the street.

Well done to Surinder for doing such a great job and for doing something to help his community!
