Selling Property over the Holidays

At Christmas most people like to celebrate by putting up a tree, or placing decorations throughout the house, but if you are selling your house over the holidays, is festive decorating still a good idea?

A lot of people presenting their home for sale over the holidays ask whether or not it is still appropriate to decorate. On the one hand, festive decorations can make your home feel more friendly and inviting and on the other you run the risk of offending people who may not celebrate this time of year the same way you do.

So what should you do? The advice for decorating at this time of year as it is for the rest of the year. As long as you keep your home clean, tasteful and uncluttered then there is no reason why you should hide your decorations. Most people won’t think twice if they notice a Christmas tree in the corner of your house, but if your tree or other decorations blocks pathways or obscure features of your home then you may want to reconsider your placement of items, or possibly tone them down a little.

If selling over the Christmas period is sounding like too much though, sellers can at least be rest assured that buyers looking through properties at this time of year are serious about finding a home. Buyers will also be happy to know that sellers are generally quite keen to move if they are selling over the holidays, so it can be an easy transaction for all involved.
