Liverpool Council Campaigning for Recycling Scheme

The Liverpool City Council has a plan that may help clean the bottles and cans that litter our streets.

According to the Liverpool Leader, the council will appeal to the state government to introduce a legislation that allows a container deposit levy in NSW.

By introducing the legislation, NSW residents would be encouraged to recycle drink bottles, cans and cartons as they would receive a 10c refund whenever they do so.

A similar scheme already exists in South Australia and has proven to be a success there, so it makes sense to introduce the scheme here too.

Thousands of bottles and cans reach our streets and waterways every year, so an incentive to dispose of rubbish correctly and recycle might be just what is needed to help keep our environment clean and healthy.

It would be great to see the recycling scheme introduced in NSW, but it has been something that has been talked about for a long time, so it will be interesting to see if the scheme gets introduced in the near future.

What do local residents think about the recycling scheme? Would you like to see it introduced in NSW?
