Proposed Smoking Ban for Liverpool CBD

Casula Latest News | Liverpool | Local Area Info 27th September, 2011 No Comments
There have been reports that the Liverpool City Council is considering introducing a smoking ban in Liverpool’s CBD.

While there is already a smoking ban around the play equipment in Macquarie Mall in the Liverpool CBD; there have been calls to extend this ban to also include outside dining areas and other parts of the CBD.

The extended smoking ban has been met with mixed reactions from the local community. Some people are all for the idea, as it means non-smokers can dine outdoors without having to worry about breathing in second-hand smoke. There is also a problem of cigarette butts being littered all over the mall, and by having a ban this would be reduced.

However those who are against the ban believe that the whole point of outdoor dining is to allow people to smoke in the open-air. Many businesses on Macquarie Mall are also concerned about the impact that a smoking ban will have on their customers.

With an issue such as this it will always be hard to keep everyone happy, however I’m interested to hear what the local community think of the proposed ban – are you for or against it?
