At this time of year there’s probably a lot on everyone’s minds, but local fire authorities are asking households to remember to change over smoke alarm batteries.

It can be very easy to forget to change our smoke alarm batteries. Sometimes even after they start making a beeping noise to alert that their batteries need changing, many people simply try and switch the alarm off altogether.

But smoke alarms are extremely important to have in our homes and they are there to alert us in case of a smoke or a fire at our home.

Don’t neglect your smoke alarm, and remember to change its batteries at least once a year. It is also a good idea to check that your smoke alarm is in working order about once a month, as smoke alarms only have a limited lifespan.
