Recycling Your Old Reading Glasses

National Recycling Week is coming up in the week starting November 7, and that means it’s time for Casula residents to start thinking about what they can reduce, reuse and recycle!

Before you throw anything away it’s important to think about whether or not it can be used again for some other purpose, because as they say, “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.

One thing in particular that people might not think to recycle is their old reading glasses.

Most people who use glasses probably have an old pair or two lying around the house, and while you may not want them anymore, they may be extremely valuable to others in the world who can’t afford glasses of their own.

Lion Clubs International have made it one of their global missions to collect old reading glasses and these are then passed on to a centre that cleans and sorts the old glasses and then sends them on to people in need in developing countries.

To recycle your old reading glasses and give them away to a good cause, contact your local Lions Club and the will be able to let you know the best way to donate them.

All sorts of glasses are needed, whether they are prescription or reading, so do the right thing and recycle, and help a great cause at the same time.
