Liverpool’s streets will be filled with plenty of colour and festivities tomorrow, when crowds of thousands come out to celebrate the Festival of the Chariots, also known as the Ratha Yatra.

The Indian cultural celebration will kick off at 10am tomorrow in Bigge Park and it will include a walking street parade through Liverpool’s main thoroughfares, followed by classical Indian dancing and a free vegetarian feast in the park.

The street parade is the main event of the festival, where performers pull the chariot of the lord of the universe, Lord Jagannath. It is believed in the Hindu faith that those who pull the ropes of the chariot will be closer to their release from the material world and entrance to the spiritual world.

The festival is celebrated by millions of people in more than 200 countries around the world, and this year is the 6th year that the Festival of the Chariots will be taking place in Liverpool.

Everybody in the community is invited to come out and enjoy tomorrow’s festivities, so will you be heading to the Festival of the Chariots in Liverpool tomorrow?
