The NSW Government has proposed new state legislation that will hopefully help improve backyard pool safety in NSW.

The proposed legislation will introduce a statewide online registry in which all pools in NSW will need to register within 12 months.

Property owners who fail to register their pool in the required timeframe will face fines of $2200.

Under the proposed legislation, properties with pools will also need to undergo inspections before they can be sold or leased.

Councils and private operators will carry our safety compliance inspections at an expected cost of $150. Pools that are found to be non-compliant may risk facing a fine of up to $5000.

The new laws are being considered to help prevent child drowning in NSW and also to encourage homeowners to ensure the safety of their pools and pool fences.

All property owners in Liverpool should remember to take the time before summer to make sure that pools are safe to use and remember that children need to be supervised at all times when they are in or around a swimming pool.
