The OECD Better Life Index has reported that 1 in 5 Aussie men and 6% of Aussie women are working more than 50 hours a week. While the number of Australians working long hours has dropped since 1995, we currently rank as the fourth highest for long hours worked among all OECD nations. While women tend to take on less work after they marry and have children, the opposite is true for men. So just what does this mean for the lifestyles of our Liverpool families?
Naturally the more hours being spent at work means more hours away from home and loved ones. This got us wondering how our Liverpool residents feel about their own working hours, and whether or not you think work is impacting on your lifestyle.
This is pretty timely research, as we often use the halfway point of the year to take stock. Take a look at what’s going on in your personal and professional lives, and assess what you’re doing well and what could be improved. Professionally you’ll undoubtedly have a list of KPI’s and goals that may throw you in the path of praise from your boss or career advancement; but often personal goals can be more challenging to develop, despite the fact that they’re often far more important.
We’d like to encourage all Liverpool residents to have a think about what’s going on in your life at the moment. Are you managing to devote enough time to your friends and family, or do you end every day feeling stressed out and swamped by work? If it feels like your life is all work and no play, it may be time to put the tools down and make plans for some extra quality time with your loved ones.
