Liverpool residents may have noticed a bit more yellow around town lately. That’s because today is Daffodil Day and the local community is being encouraged to pin a daffodil on their shirt to show that they care about beating cancer.
The largest fundraising event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, Daffodil Day raises essential funds for cancer research, prevention and support services.
Sadly, statistics reveal that 128,000 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year and that number is set to rise to 150,000 by 2020.
The good news though, is that the survival rate for many common cancers has increased by 30 per cent in the past two decades and hopefully it will continue to increase as cancer research helps lead to new and better treatments and hopefully one day to a cure.
If you choose to donate on Daffodil Day this year, here is how your money can help (from the Daffodil Day website):
Everyone can help show their support this Daffodil Day by helping with fundraising efforts, buying a daffodil or making a donation.
All further information about Daffodil Day can be found at daffodilday.com.au.
