Next week, the Liverpool community will be celebrating Refugee Week and the positive contributions that refugees make to our community.
Refugee Week is a national event that aims to help create a better understanding between different communities. The events of Refugee Week aim to help educate the Liverpool community about the importance of welcoming new cultures into our communities, as well as helping us all to understand the issues that refugees face.
Liverpool is home to a diverse mix of people and a number of these people are refugees who have had the opportunity to help rebuild their lives here.
There are a lot of misconceptions about refugees, and during Refugee Week it is hoped that events and activities will be held in communities around Australia that will educate Australians about refugee issues as well as help build unity in our communities. It will also give communities the opportunity to see first-hand the strengths and talents of refugees.
In Liverpool there will be a few events to help mark Refugee Week and in Sydney there will be an event called “Walk Together” which will take place on Saturday June 23 at Parliament House.
Walk Together hopes to join the community together in a celebration that recognises the need for everyone to ‘walk together”.
The Walk Together event is for everyone and it will provide a great way to learn more about your neighbours and the diverse cultures that help make up our community.
