Liverpool could one day be connected to a light rail network.
According to the Liverpool City Champion, the recent state budget outlined a sum of $400 million for work to boost a western Sydney light rail system, subject to a feasibility study.
If light rail does get the go ahead, it is believed that it will run from Parramatta to Liverpool.
The Parramatta to Liverpool connection makes sense as both cities are strong growth areas and it would help connect the Westmead medical hub with the Liverpool hospital and research precinct.
The Liverpool area and the rest of western Sydney were big winners in this year’s state budget, most likely due to the need to fast track development in the area for the new airport being built at Badgerys Creek.
Below are some other areas of state funding that Liverpool is likely to see benefit from:
- More than $103 million to complete the South West Rail Link from Glenfield to Leppington;
- WestConnex Motorway gets $398 million for construction to commence in early 2015;
- M5 West widening gets $400 million;
- Road upgrades get $109 million to support Sydney’s second airport at Badgerys Creek;
- An extra $13 million for the widening of Deadman’s Creek bridge on Heathcote Road; and
- Local councils allocated $60 million to deliver essential infrastructure to support up to 3000 new homes in western Sydney growth areas.
