Good news if you’re in need of emergency care – which has been known to come with an 8-10 hour wait in the busier areas of the state. You can now shop around for the least-busy hospital on a new state government website: emergencywait.com.au.
With just a few clicks, you can find out how many beds are available in your nearest hospital emergency department. The site also details how many patients are currently being seen by a triage nurse and are awaiting treatment and displays what the average wait time over the next 2 hours will be. If there’s too much of a queue – you are redirected to another hospital.
A total of 58 NSW public hospitals are linked to the website and the system is designed to give real-time information and to offer options to those in need of medical care – including the possibility of visiting their GP for less serious cases.
It never ceases to amaze me how technology can make everyone’s lives easier. It’s good to see a system that not only makes life a little more comfortable (as per most technological advances) but could save lives too.
